I sometimes wonder what 10-years-ago-me would think of my life now.
This is me…then
A little over 10 years ago, after losing a string of jobs as a professional writer to a bad economy, I decided to go back to school and take a class in photography. My husband insisted on capturing a photo of me on my first day of class (dated Instagram filter free of charge!).
I often wonder what that woman would think of the person I am today.
Would she be proud of me for stepping into my lifelong dreams of building a career as a creative on my own terms? Would she tell me it’s all good even though I sometimes feel insecure about my skills and wish I had started photography when I was a teenager, like so many of my peers?
Would she be happy to see what I’m up to?
This is me…now
Even 10 short years ago I wouldn’t have told you I’d have my own photography business!
But, looking back, I can see there were definitely a couple tell-tale signs that this would be my path…
✨ When I was 8 years old I spent my days photographing my world with my grandpa’s old Kodak Reflex film camera — most of the photos were blurry, but I remember how much I LOVED taking those photos.
✨ I had dreams of being a career artist one day, writing and illustrating little novels for my friends to read — eventually I became a professional writer (it sounds magical, but the solitude of that life is haaaard!!
I’m sharing this story (and photo!) with you today to remind you that even though some days it might feel like you have forever to go before reaching your goals, if you pause and look back, you’ll see how far you’ve come.
See yourself through the eyes 10-years-ago-you.
Wouldn’t you be so incredibly proud of everything you’ve learned and overcome?
Wouldn’t you be so darn proud of all the times you kept going and all the things you’ve been able to accomplish? Wouldn’t you be so glad to see how your style has evolved for the better?
The answer is yes, because you’re amazing.
