My Biggest Milestones and Lessons from 2024

For me 2024 was a year of big changes and big energy. It’s was full of exciting milestones and some lessons learned along the way!

I’m so proud of myself, of the work I’ve done in myself and in my business.

So let’s get right to it!

My Biggest Milestones of 2024

#1 – I launched my website and went all-in on strategic brand photography

This was an all-consuming effort on my part from August 2023 to May of this year. I wrote all the copy, designed my site, and finally launched this Spring. It was so much work, and I can’t say that I would do it again (I’d probably hire because I truly know how hard it is — even being someone who had confidence and experience in copywriting and Web design). Still I have no regrets because it taught me so much about what kinds of things my clients need when working on a relaunch of their brand.

#2 – I held my first Brand Mini Day and I can’t wait to do more

For years I had wanted to offer a mini day for brand photography, but I wasn’t sure how to make it successful.

Finally this year I decided to really show up and talk about why a Brand Mini Day is so helpful, and why it’s a great value for small businesses who are just starting out, or who need to update a few photos. I honestly felt like people were tired of me talking about it, but my first launch in May filled up within hours. And it was so fun!

I’m planning another Brand Mini Day for March 21st of next year. If you want to get on the Waitlist for more info, CLICK HERE.

#3 I started offering B-roll during brand sessions…and it’s a big hit!

B-roll (short form video) was something I wanted to include in my packages for a minute…I’d been asked about it a number of times, and realized it was something my clients needed. So I made a goal to make it happen in 2024, got educated, practiced it on my clients, and now I am feeling super confident about adding it in my client packages for 2025.

Here’s some B-roll from my session with Nerissa B Calligraphy. If B-roll is something you need for your website or social media, let me know!

My Biggest Lessons of 2024

#1 Getting my money right makes me more creative

I always believed I wasn’t great with money. Deep down I believed it, and I think in many ways it just made me feel stuck in my business. The frustration of it occupied my mind, and once I learned that getting that stuff straightened out would lead me to have more time and space for creative thinking, the ideas about my business began to explode! I am having the best time in my business right now, and I feel that fresh, amazing feeling again, that I felt when I first hung my sign in 2016.

#2 Hiring help for a few things makes me better at everything

This was the year I hired the help I needed. I hired a money mindset coach to get my money shizz together. I got into a membership to help me write emails. I hired a brand strategy coach to make my offerings better (yep, a brand strategist needs help, too!). And I purchased extra software to make my editing go much faster.

The last two things I hired were in Q4 and I am already seeing a difference in the freedom I feel in my business, which amazingly, is leading to more inquiries and bookings! I felt so stuck in a few of these areas, and when I finally just handed over the cash and paid for the help, the ROI made it completely worth it.

#3 Working alongside Web designers makes us all successful

This year I had the chance to work alongside a few Web designers while working on brand refreshes and launches for my clients, and I’ve learned so much!

One of the biggest things I’ve learned is that hiring a brand photographer shouldn’t be done in a vacuum. It should be part of a bigger plan that you have for your business to get the most out of your photos, now and into the future. READ MORE about my thoughts about the importance of Web design on my blog.
