Nerissa’s Brand Redesign Journey
When Nerissa from Nerissa B Calligraphy first reached out to me, she was looking for something pretty straightforward: updated brand photos to give her online presence a little refresh. As a talented calligrapher and artist, she already had a good eye for design and was even planning to create her new logo herself. A full website overhaul? Not on her radar.
But then, everything changed after she read my blog post, “Why Your Website Is Your Worst Employee.” In that post, I talk about how an outdated or poorly designed website can actually hurt your business, sending the wrong vibe to potential clients. After reading it, Nerissa had a lightbulb moment: her website didn’t just need some new photos—it needed a complete makeover.
The Decision to Redesign
That’s when Nerissa decided to team up with Jess from Studio Crescent for a full website redesign. Suddenly, her vision for her brand started to grow, and she could see how everything—from her logo to her website to her photos—needed to work together to truly reflect who she is and attract the clients she loves working with. This new direction also completely shifted the focus of our brand photo shoot. Instead of just updating her current photos, we started planning a session that would fit perfectly with her new website and brand identity.
Planning the Brand Shoot
Planning Nerissa’s brand shoot was such a fun, creative process. With the help of Jess at Studio Crescent , we got clear on her brand’s personality, who her dream clients are, and the story she wanted to tell. From there, we put together a shot list that captured:
- Behind-the-scenes moments of her calligraphy process, showing off her artistry and the care she pours into every project.
- Styled flat lays of her tools and materials, showcasing her gorgeous aesthetic.
- Warm, approachable portraits that highlight her creativity and professionalism.
- B-roll footage and candid shots to add an authentic, personal touch to her visuals—things like using her workspace, interacting with her tools, and some aesthetic footage that captured her brand’s vibe.
We also chose an incredible location that seamlessly fit with the look and feel of her new website, making sure every detail felt intentional and cohesive.
